Current Attitudes Towards Body Art

There are many people, in the first instance, that would never actually accept tattooing as any form of art. Such people may even go as far as holding the opinion that tattooing is nothing more than the mutilation of one’s body. Luckily, this type of opinion predominantly seems to be held by the eldest generation and as more and more time elapses, so the attitude towards body art becomes progressively more positive.

Of course, we have to accept that one man's poison will be another person's meat and therefore there will always be people who are not prepared to adorn their bodies with any ink. This is fine, but just so long as they refrain from looking down their noses at other adventurous individuals that do choose to do exactly this.

At the end of the day, tattoos and art design does absolutely require a lot of skill. It takes a long time to learn how to become adept at body art and this is something that tends to be overlooked by the snobs in society that refuse to look beyond the outdated stereotypes. (more...)

The Good Old Days

At the risk of sounding ancient, I remember fondly the days when our spare time as kids was spent, not on computer games, but on good old fashioned fun such as art. We made art out of anything we could find. Drawing was always good fun, but give us some sellotape and a few bits of cardboard and we would spend hours making cartoon characters or collages.

The good thing was that you did not have be good at art, you just had to enjoy it. We spent hours watching Rolf Harris and other art programmes and taking inspiration – even if our finished efforts looked nothing like old Rolf could produce.

We took toilet rolls and cereal packets, we used old bits of anything we could find around the house. We cut and snipped, glued and stuck until we came up with something that we were really proud of. (more...)

Art in the Home

When decorating your new home, you will want to ensure that you choose some pieces of art to adorn the walls, something which both reflects your own taste and which you will never get tired of.

If you are on a pretty tight budget then stylish posters may be the answer, or small postcards in cheap but effective clear glass frames which never fail to look good.

Many people have canvas prints in their homes, normally in the lounge, kitchen or bedroom. A block mounted picture on canvas looks stylish and chic and extremely contemporary and although not cheap, they will look good for many years to come. They look good both in bright and vivid colours or in black and white, so you will find something whatever your taste in art. (more...)

Buying Contemporary Art

Buying art for your home can be tricky unless you are something of an expert. Often, pieces that are supposed to be very impressive simply appear confusing to the untrained eye and few people are keen to hang paintings that perplex them on the walls of their homes.

By the same token, however, you don't want to purchase a supermarket-bought canvas if you are keen to buy a painting as an investment. If financial gain is your goal, along with decoration, you might want to learn something about modern art in order to gain insight into its often puzzling aesthetics.

This way, you'll be able to make a good choice; one that appeals to you and which is also a viable investment. To start with, you may want to take stock of the pieces already present in the room where you're keen to hang your new painting. Not all contemporary canvases will sit well next to www.williamsantiquemirrors.co.uk and if you're determined to keep your other decorative items, you'll want to choose a painting that works well with them.
